South Lyon Fire Department Call

On June 26, 2016, we received a call from South Lyon fire department to secure a home due to a fire loss.  The homeowner was using a fire pit on his deck and it caught the house on fire.  M.J. White & Son, Inc. responded in the 60 minute response time required to work with fire departments.  We secured the property and began to work with the homeowner and Citizens Insurance (a company we have a long standing relationship with) to scope the repairs.  The homeowner quickly signed with us for full reconstruction and M.J. White & Son jumped into action.  We packed out their contents items, pulled permits and began full reconstruction.  The total amount of repairs were $215,997.78.  We are happy to say that all these repairs were completed 30 days ahead of schedule!!!!

Back and Ready to go for Easter Services!!

On Saturday April 8, 2017, I received a call from a friend asking me to bring over some air scrubbers to our church.  After the 5:30 mass, coals from incense that were thought to be cooled were put into a garbage can in the sacristy room.  I wanted to see what was going on myself, so I jumped in the car and was there in ten minutes.  Upon arrival the fire department was still there so I knew that this loss was bigger than running some air scrubbers.  The fire inspector took me in so that I could begin to make an assessment.  I took pictures, sent them to our General Manager and together we started putting together a plan.  A drycleaner was called out and picked up the Priests vestments and other fabrics that adorned the alter.   Timing was of the essence because the first mass was at 8:00 the next morning along with five other masses and the Passion of Christ play that night.  We started pulling in our cleaning crews and carpenters to the scene.  We cleaned all night washing all the pews, chemical sponging the smoked up walls and floors and anything else to eliminate the smell and soot.  The carpenters removed the fire damaged cabinets, set equipment and fogged.  The next morning at 7:30 we picked up all the equipment in time for the first Sunday mass.  School was out the following week for Easter break so that Monday we did cleaning touch ups and painted the sacristy room.  An organ company came out to access and clean the organ that has been at the church since the 60’s.  This was also a huge undertaking.

I was so happy to get this call and be able to help out.  We were able to get everything done so that Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday masses could go on without and disruption.
